To get to the gorgeous and magical colonial city Antigua Guatemala from Guatemala City, take the CA-1 road going through the Roosevelt Causeway, and then by San Lucas Sacatepéquez. Antigua is located 40 kilometers from the center of the capital city.

This city was born as Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala on 1543. It has a privileged climate and an exceptional view of the Agua and Fuego volcanoes.

Antigua has remained frozen in time and is a site rich in typical textiles, ceramics, silver and gold products, chandlery, metal products and leather. You can also find a great variety of restaurants, coffee shops and pubs, or you can simply walk on the beautiful streets and parks to know the locals.

Central Park

El Parque Central or Plaza Mayor is as old as the city and it's one of the best places to people-watch and a favorite meeting place for locals and tourists alike. From the city's inception, the plaza was designed to be the center of social life.

Santiago Cathedral

Facing Parque Central is this Roman Catholic church, la Catedral de Santiago, with roots that stretch all the way back to 1541. Spend time wandering through the crumbling ruins inside the church, admiring its arches and stucco relief work.

The Santa Catalina Arch

El Arco de Santa Catalina was built in 1694, on either side of the arch are two convents. Within the convents lived cloistered nuns, and in the 1690s they lived on one side of the of the arch and taught at a school on the other.

Hill of the Cross

The city's views that you can enjoy from the top of the Cerro de la Cruz are just one reason to take a climb here. In addition to the city, you will also have an excellent view of the volcano.

The Capuchinas convent

El Convento de Capuchinas was built in 1725. Because of its amazing architecture, it’s actually considered the first apartment complex in the Americas. You can step inside for a glimpse of how life was all those centuries ago.

The market

Wind your way among the frenetic stalls of the colorful Mercado de Antigua, piled with everything you could conceivably need. Be sure to stop along the way to gorge on some of the local fresh fruit. If you are really hungry, take a table for lunch at one of the cafes.
